BRAILLE BRICKS

We all know that learning by playing is easier. Wikipedia says that "Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments". 

Now this will be possible for blind kids too! 

Brazilian schools welcome all instructional materials, especially those that have information in Braille. Educational tools that stimulate fun and tactile experiences in children who are visually challenged are very important, because they complement the use of books and study aids for literacy. With this in mind, Lew'LaraTBWA has created Braille Bricks for the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind, which is a Braille alphabet developed with classic building blocks.  

The Braille Bricks project is a toy building brick that can be whatever you imagine it to be, or even something you've never imagined. Braille Bricks is an experiment that transforms these bricks into a tool capable of encouraging creativity, helping blind children learn to read and write. It also encourages the inclusion of children with or without visual impairment. In fact, each block can be used like a toy by blind and sighted children alike, but each block features one Braille letter.
To assist people in perceiving that imagination and inclusion are important to the learning process of any child, Braille Bricks is a powerful communication platform for calling attention to the literacy process of visually challenged children. To that end, the objective is to make Braille Bricks a global product, by inviting people to bring pressure to bear on manufacturers via the hashtag #BrailleBricksForAll. The product’s registration is available on the Creative Commons knowledge and creativity sharing site.

I love this toy as it is for everyone, it helps not only with Braille literacy but also aids in integration with other kids...and it does it by playing which is much more fun!

CUCUMA, ALPHABET PROJECT AND TANGRAM PROJECT BY Elena Bergamini

CUCUMA:

CUCUMA è un sogno nel cassetto, l'adrenalina di un buon caffè di prima mattina ma anche la professionalità e la passione raggruppate in quindici anni di lavoro.

CUCUMA rappresenta Elena Bergamini, è un insieme di progetti di design d'arredo, di creazioni di PaperCut e di esperimenti con la macchina da cucire e tutte le idee progettuali che Elena sa trasformare in oggetti sognanti che possono regalare un attimo di leggerezza alla quotidianità.
PRESENTAZIONE progetto ALPHABET:

C’è la carta da disegno, la carta carbone, la carta da pacco. La carta da lucido, da gioco, la carta che canta. 
Ci sono le carte geografiche e le cartoline giramondo. Poi ci sono lettere di cartone che portano il mondo in una stanza.
Un alfabeto intero per raccontare e riempire lo spazio a modo tuo.
Caratteri mobili per comporre la storia che vuoi, diventando tavolini, comodini, soluzioni per allestimenti…
Lo spazio abitato come una pagina bianca: le lettere rimandano all’iniziale di un nome… a un messaggio cifrato… a un suono che scalda il cuore…
Complementi d’arredo essenziali, “parlanti” e progettati con passione, di cui si riempirà l’aria.
Tutte le lettere di Alphabet sono di cartone, assemblato come un puzzle.
Di colore avana o bianco, ma anche personalizzabili (è infatti possibile stampare direttamente sul cartone).
Riciclabili, sono leggere, lavabili e molto resistenti.

PRESENTAZIONE progetto TANGRAM:
Per chi non lo conoscesse, il TANGRAM, è un antico gioco cinese, costituito da sette tavolette di forma differente, inizialmente disposte a formare un quadrato. Lo scopo del puzzle è quello di formare una figura utilizzando tutti i pezzi senza sovrapposizioni. Il mio TANGRAM cresce di dimensione diventando più "fisico", permettendoci di giocare usando le braccia, sul tavolo o sdraiati per terra scervellandoci con gli amici per creare forme nuove.
TANGRAM è realizzato completamente in cartone, misura 60x60 cm ed è accompagnato da una pratica custodia con manici in corda che ci permettono di trasportarlo agilmente come una borsa.

Cucuma is a dream, an earlymorning adrenaline rush after a coffee, but it is also professionalism and commitment gained after fifteen years of work.
Cucuma represents  Elena Bergamini, and there you can find her furniture projects, her Papercut works, her Sewing and Craft Projects and all the design ideas that Elena has been able to turn into dreamy objects able to give a breath of fresh air to your every day life.

ALPHABET PROJECT:

There is drawing paper, carbon paper, wrapping paper.

There are maps and globetrotter postcards. Then there are letters made of cardboard that bring the world in a room.

A whole alphabet that will enable you to tell and fill the space in your own way.
With these movable letters you can tell the story you want as they can turn into coffee tables, side tables, solutions for exhibitions and so on.
The living space can be seen as a blank page: the letters can refer to the initial of a name or to an encrypted message or even to a sound that warms the heart ...
Essential pieces of furniture, able to "talk" and designed with passion, which will fill the air.
All letters of the Alphabet are made of cardboard, assembled like a jigsaw puzzle.
They come in brown or white colour, but they can be customized (it is possible to print directly on the cardboard).
They are recyclable; they are lightweight, washable and very durable.

TANGRAM PROJECT:

For those not familiar,  The TANGRAM is a traditional Chinese puzzle made of a square divided into seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square and five triangles) that can be arranged to match particular designs.  The aim of the puzzle is to form a figure using all the pieces without overlaps. My TANGRAM grows in size and becomes more "physical", allowing you to play using your arms, on a table or lying on the ground with friends racking your brains for creating new forms.
TANGRAM is entirely made of cardboard, it measures 60x60 cm and comes with a carrying bag with rope handles that allow us to easily carry it like a bag.

We would to introduce you a very nice Etsy shop, ERSHWARE.  Ashley Thorner is focusing on hip modern and eco friendly hats and t-shirts for babies and toddlers.  As an artist and designer with a love of fashion and modern design, she struggled to find unique, modern and affordable clothes for her son.  Drawing on her design background (MFA and MLA) and her past life as a pattern maker, she started to make one-of-a-kind, upcycled  hats for her baby, using well-loved t-shirts.  It’s a fun mixture of simple modern design and kitsch/over the top pop art that is both stylish and functional.

Lincoln Kayiwa è nato nel 1979 a Kampala, in Uganda, da una famiglia di architetti. Dopo essersi laureato con un Master of Arts presso l’Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture nel 2007, fonda la propria società, KAYIWA, con la quale progetta prodotti innovativi, funzionali e di design, ciascuno dei quali è realizzato come un objet d’art unico nel suo genere.

MEMORY GAME FOTOGRAFICO!

Libri fotografici, biglietti di invio ad una festa o di ringraziamento, cornici e tanto altro: questo è ciò che offre il sito Pinhole Press. Ma è altro che ha attirato la nostra curiosità: si tratta di una serie di oggetti dedicati ai bambini e al loro costante bisogno di imparare attraverso il gioco.
Pinhole Press offre la possibilità di personalizzare il classico gioco del Memory con le immagini della nonna, del cane, della sorellina, per aiutare i più piccoli a familiarizzare con i volti.
Ma c'è di più: potete anche creare una serie di così dette Flashcards, che combinano un volto e una lettera: M di MAMMA e a fianco la vostra foto. Un modo carino per imparare l'alfabeto.

Si, la scuola è finita, se ne riparlerà a Settembre, ma siamo certe che vedendo gli oggetti che propone Present and Correct vi tornerà subito la voglia di fare acquisti di cancelleria, di riempire gli zaini dei vostri figli di quaderni, di temperini, righelli...

Present and Correct è on line dal 2008 e offre una vastissima gamma di meravigliosi oggetti, che solo colorati, dalla forma essenziale, dal gusto vagamente retrò, e di cui non potrete fare a meno!

Cosa ci piace dei proprietari di Present and Correct? Sono entrambi graphic designer e 4 volte l'anno si mettono in viaggio per scovare oggetti d'epoca. Il resto del tempo lo passano pensando a nuove idee, mangiando molto e godendosi la vita.

Present and Correct has been online since 2008 and offers a wide range of wonderful objects, which are colorful, basic, look vaguely retro, and of which you won't be able to live without!

Why do we like the owners of Present and Correct? Well, they are both graphic designers and  they go on sourcing trips around four times a year with the hope of finding some vintage gems. For the rest of the time they think of new ideas, eat a lot and generally have a nice time.

Al Salone Satellite abbiamo conosciuto KAAMOS un insieme di designers provenienti dalla Finlandia che creano oggetti molto belli, alcuni dei quali proprio dedicati ai bambini, come ad esempio

"Letters"

I cubi-lettere che tutti noi ricordiamo nella nostra infanzia, sono stati reinventati dai designers Erik Bertell e Matti Syrjälä per Kaamos.

Blocchi di legno di grandi dimensioni ornati con lettere dell'alfabeto, numeri e motivi pittorici creano una nuova occasione per il gioco dei bambini permettendo loro di familiarizzare con l'alfabeto incoraggiandoli e introducendoli alla scrittura.

At Milan Design Week we have met KAAMOS a collective of designers from Finland. They have created beautiful objects some of these for kids, for example

"Letters"

The familiar letter blocks we all remember from our childhood have been reinvented by designers Erik Bertell and Matti Syrjälä for Kaamos.

Large size of the wooden blocks ornamented with the letters of the alphabet, numbers and different pictorial motifs encourages the kids to arrange the blocks into words and sentences.

"Sprig"

I bambini strillano e avete paura di disturbare i vicini di casa? Ci hanno pensato Bertell e Surjälä con i loro pannelli acustici disponibili in tre diverse forme e dimensioni che possono essere utilizzati a parete, sul tavolo o sovrapposti, creando un notevole effetto acustico.

Children scream and you don't want to disturb the neighbors? No problem, the designers Bertell and Surjälä have projected acoustic panels available in three different sizes and shapes that can be used on the wall, on the table or overlapping.

Meravigliosi anche i contenitori in vetro soffiato e legno progettati da Katriina Nuutinen, alcuni dei quali possono essere usati come salvadanai, adatti forse più a mamma e papà che ai bambini stessi, ma comunque meritavano una segnalazione...
