& ME - Pitti 86 -Unduetrestella

Thanks to Francesca (Threelittlepigs Blog) and Paola Noè (Unduetrestella) I have been able to have a look at the news presented by the Brand &ME (see our post dated 2015) at Pitti Bimbo 86 (Florence, 18 -20 January).
I have always loved their love for handmade and their use of natural materials and timeless forms. Have a look at their new (and old, why not?) collection, you will love it for sure.
Here, my personal selection:

BABY GIM
The new &me baby gym uses similar design elements as its bigger brother the &me crib. Created as a visually appealing addition to your babys environment whilst still having actual function in tactilly and visually entertaining your little one.

BABY PUZZLE
Wood puzzle with modern archetype forms.

99 NUMBERS
This new toy is both educative and decorative. It is a way to learn counting and numbers playfully. You can count from 00 to 99. While playing with it, kids learn their numbers.
It is inspired by old-fashioned numbers from ball games.
WOOD CLOCK
A funny way of learning how to read the time on a clock.

Stüda - Ironically Iconic - Design by NINE for MOOW

Conversazione aperta. 1 messaggio letto.
"Designing is a game, playing is a project"

"Designing is a game, playing is a project"
This quote of Bruno Munari is the Theme of the Brera District during the Fuorisalone 2017, which is happening right now.

Valorizzazioni Culturali | Art-Events and AtemporaryStudio present, in coincidence with the Milan Design Week 2017, the exhibition IRONICALLY ICONIC which will take place from 4 to 9 April at Brera Site, in the heart of Milan.
Formal icons and everyday objects, apparently conventional, reveal themselves in the wonder and surprise of the unexpected.
Unexpected design for expected uses, the slogan of the exhibition, anticipates the outcomes that the reversal of roles between irony and icon can generates.
Valorizzazioni Culturali | Art-Events andAtemporaryStudio selected and invited designers, brands and companies of different field, which made of irony their style, to submit one or more works to small compositional projects.
One of the Projets that I liked the most is
Stüda, a modular system which really is iconic and ironic.
Designed by the Team of NINE (Paolo Emilio Bellisario-concept and development-, Matteo Di Sora -development- and Emilia Caffo -development-) for MOOW

Why Stüda?
Stüda (the name is a mash-up of the STUD - generating unit of LEGO - ironically in Swedish) was born to offer to the AFOL and their children, a modular system of furnishings textured with studs in full-scale, not as a result of hacking, plug-in and DIY. A pure volume, made working the Corian by a CNC milling machine, with a continuous textured surface compatible with LEGO blocks, that thanks the bricks can constantly change shape and color over time. Daily the textured surface allows you to leave creative messages, or to create complements we need (vases, frames, bowls, etc.). Parents can let their children helping them to decorate the house, and young couple can invite their friends to socially customize their furniture. The less creative can use apps like “LEGO Photo” to customize their Stüda with paintings or photos made by bricks. The three dimensions of the modules and the different colors allow you to create endless combinations both freestanding and wall hanged. Materials: blockboard wooden frame, Corian Du Pont cladding. Iron support on request. Dimensions: Module 1 30x60x40cm ; Module 2 60x60x40cm ; Module 3 120x60x40cm

BRAILLE BRICKS

We all know that learning by playing is easier. Wikipedia says that "Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments".
Now this will be possible for blind kids too!
Brazilian schools welcome all instructional materials, especially those that have information in Braille. Educational tools that stimulate fun and tactile experiences in children who are visually challenged are very important, because they complement the use of books and study aids for literacy. With this in mind, Lew'LaraTBWA has created Braille Bricks for the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind, which is a Braille alphabet developed with classic building blocks.
The Braille Bricks project is a toy building brick that can be whatever you imagine it to be, or even something you've never imagined. Braille Bricks is an experiment that transforms these bricks into a tool capable of encouraging creativity, helping blind children learn to read and write. It also encourages the inclusion of children with or without visual impairment. In fact, each block can be used like a toy by blind and sighted children alike, but each block features one Braille letter.
To assist people in perceiving that imagination and inclusion are important to the learning process of any child, Braille Bricks is a powerful communication platform for calling attention to the literacy process of visually challenged children. To that end, the objective is to make Braille Bricks a global product, by inviting people to bring pressure to bear on manufacturers via the hashtag #BrailleBricksForAll. The product’s registration is available on the Creative Commons knowledge and creativity sharing site.
I love this toy as it is for everyone, it helps not only with Braille literacy but also aids in integration with other kids...and it does it by playing which is much more fun!
Support this whch really seems to be an exceptional aid to learning, communicating and teaching.

PEEKABOW BY OREN GEVA

CUCUMA, ALPHABET PROJECT AND TANGRAM PROJECT BY Elena Bergamini

CUCUMA:

CUCUMA:
Cucuma is a dream, an earlymorning adrenaline rush after a coffee, but it is also professionalism and commitment gained after fifteen years of work.
Cucuma represents  Elena Bergamini, and there you can find her furniture projects, her Papercut works, her
Sewing and Craft Projects and all the design ideas that Elena has been able to turn into dreamy objects able to give a breath of fresh air to your every day life.
ALPHABET PROJECT:
There is drawing paper, carbon paper, wrapping paper.
There are maps and globetrotter postcards. Then there are letters made of cardboard that bring the world in a room.
A whole alphabet that will enable you to tell and fill the space in your own way.
With these movable letters you can tell the story you want as they can turn into coffee tables, side tables, solutions for exhibitions and so on.
The living space can be seen as a blank page: the letters can refer to the initial of a name or to an encrypted message or even to a sound that warms the heart ...
Essential pieces of furniture, able to "talk" and designed with passion, which will fill the air.
All letters of the Alphabet are made of cardboard, assembled like a jigsaw puzzle.
They come in brown or white colour, but they can be customized (it is possible to print directly on the cardboard).
They are recyclable; they are lightweight, washable and very durable.
TANGRAM PROJECT:
For those not familiar,  The TANGRAM is a traditional Chinese puzzle made of a square divided into seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square and five triangles) that can be arranged to match particular designs.  The aim of the puzzle is to form a figure using all the pieces without overlaps. My TANGRAM grows in size and becomes more "physical", allowing you to play using your arms, on a table or lying on the ground with friends racking your brains for creating new forms.
TANGRAM is entirely made of cardboard, it measures 60x60 cm and comes with a carrying bag with rope handles that allow us to easily carry it like a bag.
