BLOCK.210

Jessica Aroenius è convinta che il gioco dovrebbe essere al centro della vita di una famiglia e lo scopo di questo oggetto è quello di portare il bambino a uscire dalla propria "stanza dei giochi"  per usufruire di uno spazio comune dove il gioco può essere condiviso con gli adulti. 
Questo semplice tavolino si pone come obiettivo quello di unire nel gioco bambini e adulti: Block.210 è un tavolino che dovrebbe essere situato al centro della casa, ed è realizzato in betulla massello e MDF. I 210 blocchi che lo compongono sono anch'essi realizzati in betulla e tra loro si possono trovare 14 diversi blocchi, 4 dei quali emergono rispetto agli altri. Se sollevati, riveleranno 8 diversi colori. La parte anteriore del tavolino nasconde un'area di gioco segreta, un paio di fori che è possibile utilizzare per sollevare i blocchi. Un'occasione perfetta di interazione tra chi si trova sotto al tavolo e chi si trova al di sopra di esso.
La giovane designer svedese ha progettato BLOCK 21O quando ancora era una studentessa del Child Culture Design - un nuovo Master di specializzazione incentrato sul gioco.
Immaginate un corso di specializzazione focalizzato sul punto di vista di un bambino: sui  giochi per bambini, sulla pedagogia, lo sviluppo, la cultura, la salute e soprattutto gli strumenti di gioco. Sulla partecipazione e sull'influenza infantile e giovanile nella società. Immaginate un corso che sfrutta l'immensa conoscenza di un paese all'avanguardia come la Svezia, di settori come il gioco, l'assistenza sanitaria, l'educazione e la comunicazione. Nell'autunno del 2009 questa visione è diventata una realtà all' HDK- School of Design and Crafts, Universtiy of Gothenburg, che ha presentato il Child Culture DesignProgramme, CCD, un programma di disegn diverso da qualsiasi altro.

Jessica Aroenius thinks that  play should be central in a family’s life and the purpose of this furniture is to bring the child’s play out from its “playroom” and in to the common space where the child’s play can be shared with the adults. A simple object as a block intrigues both  children and adults, if you multiply them it gets even more interesting. The furniture brings the child and the adult together in a common interest, play! Block.210 is a coffee-table that should be located in the centre of the house, next to the table is made of solid birch and Mdf. The 210 blocks are made of birch and among them you can find 14 different blocks, 4 of them spy over the rest of the blocks. Under the blocks there are 8 different colors that you discover when you start if you crawl under the table there is a secret playfunction, a couple of holes that you can use to push the blocks up. A perfect opportunity for interaction between the one who is under the table and the one who is above the table.

She designed it when she was a student of Child Culture Design – a new master specialization focusing on play.

Imagine a design specialization where the focus is on the perspective of a child: On children’s play, pedagogy, development, culture, health and above all on the tools of play. On the participation and inlfuence of childen and youth on society. Imagine a design specialization that utilizes the great existing bank of knowledge that has been accumulated in Sweden, in such areas as play, health care, education and communication. In the Fall of 2009 this vision became a reality at HDK- School of Design and Crafts,Universtiy of Gothenburg, with the introduction of the Child Culture DesignProgramme, CCD, a design programme unlike any other.
