Buongiorno!

Libro: Sto leggendo ‘Not that kind of girl’ di Lena Dunham, divertentissimo! Canzone: Linger by the Cranberries, lìho ascoltata stasera mentre cucinavo. Blog: Wolf Eyebrows!
Less is more!
6.     Come hai cominciato a lavorare nell'industria dell'infanzia?

Hey! The new SS15 collection 'Stay Gold' by Corby Tindersticks is out!
We spoke about Corby Tinderstick here, do you remember? Corby Tinderstick is a design-led unisex label with handmade soft toys, prints, home decor aimed at children aged 0-7 years, and adults too!  Everything is screen-printed in England and all the toys and prints are hand finished in their East London studio.
Carly Jacamo Gledhill, the Designer, answered some questions about herself and the Brand. Have a look at the answers to get to know them better but also get the feeling behind it.

1.   Which is your background and how did you get where you are?

I won first place in a colouring competition at a local park at the age of 7 and realised that being creative was my calling. I started Corby T as a creative escape from a boring day job. It began as a hobby and sprouted into a little business, which soon took over my life and kitchen table!

2.  What sorts of things influence your work? Daily facts, movies , art, design, etc..

I find mid century design very inspiring, especially artists like Bruno Munari and Alexander Girard. I like to travel for inspiration too and this year I am going to visit Tokyo which is very exciting!

3.     Besides your job, what are you passionate about?

I love design and fashion, visiting museums and galleries, and exploring London! I’m also into cycling and spend most of my weekends speeding through the countryside dressed in Lycra!

4.     A movie, a book, a song, a blog.

I’m currently reading ‘Not that kind of girl’ by Lena Dunham, it’s making me laugh a lot!

Lingerby the Cranberries, I listened to it tonight while making a stir fry.

5.     What’s the best piece of advice you have followed?
Less is more!

6.     How did you start in the kid’s industry?

I didn’t know what I wanted to do after I graduated and the first design job I was offered was as a children’s outerwear designer! I went from there.

7.     What major problems did you encounter and what has been your greatest achievement in your career?

The main problem I found was money - there's never enough of it. That, and time. If I could have an extra spoonful of both it’d be much easier!

8.     Which field would you advise a young designer to explore, considering the saturation of the market?

That's a difficult question! At the moment there are new brands and new shops opening all the time so it’s really hard work, even when there was less competition. I think young designers need to find their way organically and not rush into anything. It took me 5 years to decide to start my own brand after working in the industry. It definitely helps to get some experience first!

9.     What do you love most about what you do and what do you like least?

I love having the freedom to design exactly how I want to! I can be creative and only have to please myself. The worst thing is balancing work and life. I could work all day and night and never stop!

10. How does your workspace look like?

At the moment it’s quite tidy. I have a big desk, half for sewing and half for designing. There is usually a big pile of sewing to do and a pile of cardboard boxes (sometimes reaching the ceiling!)
